Payson Canyon

A year ago, we had enjoyed driving the Nebo Loop Scenic Byway with Hal and Christy Smith to see the autumn colors.  This fall, on September 26, Lynn and Karen Haskell joined us for a drive through Payson Canyon to see the fall foliage; but we didn't do the whole loop.  Instead, we turned off and took a gravel road headed for Santaquin where we stopped for ice cream at the Red Barn.  It was an enjoyable scenic drive even though the colors were not at their peak.

September Wedding and Other Activities

We attended the wedding, luncheon, and reception for our grandson, Ryan and Tani's son.  Carson and Maria were married September 17th in the Logan Temple with a reception that evening at The Vista in Cedar Hills, Utah.

The luncheon was held
at Riverwoods Conference Center in Logan.

As there was time between the wedding and the luncheon
while bride and groom photos were being taken,
we went to the cemetery in Logan to visit the graves
of my parents and my nephews,
Ronald and Harold Nelson.

Shannon and Doug went with us to the cemetery.

I always appreciate Beth sharing her photos taken at important family events,
and I will be posting some of her pictures taken on the temple grounds and
at the reception in a future blog entry.

On September 11th, we went with
Hal and Christy Smith
to see the fall colors in Payson Canyon.
The timing wasn't as good as our visit last fall in October
when we saw brighter colors,
but it was a nice drive.
Provo Lake can be seen in the background.
On the return home,
we included a stop for ice cream at the Red Barn in Santaquin.

The Rose of Sharon bushes planted last fall
were in full bloom this September.

Although the weather is still warm,
the blue pool cover is now rolled back and
Sam is shown putting on the winter cover
after the pool was winterized.

Ryan invited his dad to go with him to the
BYU / Virginia football game on September 20th.
BYU won 41-33.
(Sam and Ryan in matching outfits!)

We have been to several flag football games watching
Ethan and Joshua play, but their season ended yesterday.
Another grandson, Sam, was voted Homecoming king
at Bennett County High School in South Dakota.
He was also the quarterback.
Sam scored two touchdowns and a conversion,
and they won their Homecoming game 22-14.

The Ogden Utah Temple was rededicated after extensive renovation.
We enjoyed attending in our chapel the broadcast of the
rededication on September 21st.
The exterior of the temple has been reshaped and
no longer is a twin of the Provo Temple, which
were both dedicated originally in 1972.

This cute bear welcomes visitors to our home now.
The assortment of pumpkins and gourds
from the garden announce the beginning of autumn.

We have more tomatoes and cucumbers than we can use,
so we have been sharing with neighbors who don't have gardens.
The downstairs freezer looks pretty red when you
open the door and see all the salsa.
