Autumn Colors in Hobble Creek Canyon

We enjoyed having Hal and Christy Smith go with us today to see the autumn colors brilliantly displayed in Hobble Creek Canyon.  We were not disappointed with the colorful scenery.  The start of this scenic drive is about 15 miles from Spanish Fork.

I got a little teary when President Nelson expressed his closing remarks showing some tender emotion.

Pleasant Weather Is Welcomed

"Autumn equinox" - September 23rd began the first day of fall. 

Our 3-month assignment for cleaning the church building ended September 25.  In the beginning, it was announced at Sacrament meeting the families whose names started with A-G were the ones to come the next Saturday to help clean the church building.  After having no one show up to help us on the second Saturday in August, we knew we needed to do something more; so each Wednesday we sent individual text messages to the assigned families with a follow-up message on Friday to those who had replied they were coming.  We appreciated the supportive help we got with this system.  There were families who didn't come or reply to these messages, but we had enough who did that most Saturday mornings we were able to finish up and return home in a reasonable time.  On our last Saturday, Sam and I went an hour early to do some extra "deep" cleaning - treating stains on the chapel benches, removing stains in the toilets, and had the chapel vacuumed with our Dyson vacuum that we always took with us.

A favorite family movie, "The Princess Pride" was released in theaters September 25, 1987 - thirty-five years ago.  Inconceivable!

     October 1 & 2 - We watched General Conference on our TV.

We enjoyed the messages and the music.  President Nelson announced there are now plans to build 18 new temples, which will join the 168 currently operating and the 107 that are under construction or are being designed preconstruction.

I was born in Cheyenne Agency, South Dakota in 1938.

This is the hospital in Cheyenne Agency where I was born.  

In the spring of 1959 relocation activities began on Cheyenne River.  The relocation of the agency was to Eagle Butte.  This was necessitated due to the construction of the Oahe Dam near Pierre, which flooded lands along the Missouri River.  The new hospital was the first building constructed on the new agency site.  

Where I was born is now at the bottom of the Missouri River.

An aerial view of the former Cheyenne Agency before it was moved to Eagle Butte.  The agency at the time of my birth was located on the west bank of the Missouri River below the mouth of the Big Cheyenne River.  My first home is somewhere in this photo.
