Yesterday was the 24th of July, which is a state holiday in Utah honoring the pioneers. The celebration began in Spanish Fork with a parade as part of Fiesta Days that began July 13th and goes to July 28th.
Prior to the start of Fiesta Days,
our family had two very important events to celebrate . . .
Birth of our 8th Great-Grandchild
Kathrine (Kate) Emmaline Ure
born in Texas May 31, 2018
parents - Matt and Brittney
Birth of our 35th Grandchild
Chance Ezra Ireland
born in Arkansas on July 11, 2018,
to join Jeff and Rochelle's
family
and be a brother to Zack, Jamon, Austin, Kate, and Miles.
We were pleased to be included via Skype to view
the baby blessing of Chance on July 21st.

Sharing Memories of our Europe East Mission

In addition to our slideshow,
we had a few displays,
including the Shutterfly book I made of our mission.
The carved wooden nativity was one of two we bought in Russia.
The Russian nativity at the right is hand carved and painted.
Interestingly, it has several animals including a horse,
but no camel or donkey.
This Matryoshka doll has 10 nesting dolls, all hand painted.
The "Grandfather Frost" (right) is a very special keepsake
we bought in Moscow.
It is beautifully painted on wood, and is very heavy.
The book at the left is a Russian alphabet book,
and the book at the right has photos of beautifully decorated Russian Easter eggs.
Some of our Empty Nester friends wearing the

We wore these for warmth during the two winters we were in Russia.

Founded in 1852, the
company was originally a producer
of wagons for farmers, miners, and the
military.
The first gasoline automobiles to be fully manufactured by Studebaker
were marketed in August 1912.
Over the next 50 years, the company established a reputation
for good quality and reliability.
After years of financial problems,
in 1954 the company merged with luxury car maker Packard
to form
Studebaker-Packard Corporation.
In 1962, the company returned to the Studebaker Corporation name.
The
South Bend, Indiana, plant ceased production on December 20, 1963;
and the last
Studebaker automobile rolled off the
Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, assembly
line on March 17, 1966.

1974 Avanti
Studebaker Corporation manufactured and marketed the Avanti
between June 1962 and December 1963
when Studebaker discontinued the model.
The Avanti II was marketed through a succession of
five different owenership arrangements.
Very few cars were made and production ceased in 2006.

Celebrating Pioneer Day - 24th of July
This was Spanish Fork's float,
and there were also nice floats from neighboring cities.
There were also nice floats from businesses.
This was entered by Bank of American Fork.
High Altitude Cloggers
Rebecca with the long ponytail is one of the cloggers,
and her mom is driving with Joshua riding inside the cab.

The parade started at 9:00 a.m. and was about two hours long
with floats from all the neighboring cities,
entries from businesses and youth organizations,
as well as marching bands.

I always enjoy the Quilt Show
at the Pioneer Park.
The information card for this quilt
said the blocks were made from dishtowels
embroidered by her mother which she found
after her mother died.
I include this one among the many quilts displayed
because I especially like sunflowers.
We admired the handwork on this beautiful quilt,
which we learned was made by someone close to Patty Patterson Hanks,
a friend and former student of Sam's from St. Johns, Arizona.
We were lucky to be at the quilt show the same time Patty was there,
and we had a nice visit with her.
It was good to learn her dear mother, Ruth Patterson, is doing well for her age.
Patty's son, Nick Hanks, has important responsibilities on the rodeo committee.

We ended the day by going to Beth and Todd's to watch fireworks
from their family and from neighbors.
After returning home, we watched from our front yard
the fireworks that started after the rodeo.

Food and Crafts during Fiesta Days
We walked through the Craft Fair, and I bought a hat.
Todd and Lori Catmill from our former ward were one of the food vendors,
and we bought and enjoyed eating the
popular tri-tip sandwich they make.
Another day we bought a beef and cheese Argentina Empanada,
but it was not as delicious as those we had in Argentina.
Not surprisingly, we did not spend any time at the street carnival;
and there were many other attractions during Fiesta Days
that we did not choose to attend.

As the 24th of July is a celebration of pioneers,
I am sharing this information about our ancestors.

Our pool has been enjoyed by family and friends during the hot days of July,
including the Young Women with their leaders from a former ward.
We hope other family and friends are also finding ways to enjoy
these warm days of summer.
