Beth offered to bring dinner to our home to celebrate
Valentine's Day with Todd and Beth's family;
and I offered to provide the beverage, dessert, and treats.
Beth suggested I set the table with my Mother's place settings.
The dishes are "Miss America Pink Depression Glass" (circa 1933-1938),
and the utensils are "Bird of Paradise by Community" (1923),
the year my parent's were married.
We had a candlelight dinner with the Graham family
and Marisa (who is living with us during her senior year at BYU).

from one of my dresses she and other granddaughters
have played in when they were much younger.

I didn't take a picture to post, but we hosted our Empty Nesters group on Monday, February 6th, and had an enjoyable game night, visiting, and
refreshments served by the Smiths.

Sports, whether as a participant or a spectator, is a favorite activity for many in our family; but this past week was the first time Sam and I had attended
state high school swim finals. They were held on the BYU campus.
We went with our friends, Hal and Christy Smith,
to watch their neighbor's daughter, Makayla Cazier, a junior,
who set yet another record that day.
She competes in a different race each year making new records.
After the swim meet, we stopped by the BYU Student Athlete Building
to look at the exhibits.
We didn't see it all and should go back for another visit.

Ty Detmer's retired jersey and Heisman award from 1990.
As a player, Detmer won
the Heisman Trophy in 1990 while playing quarterback for Brigham Young
University. He went on to play professionally in the National Football
League for twelve seasons. He has been the offensive coordinator at BYU
since December 2015. At BYU, Detmer broke several NCAA records and was
twice recognized as a consensus All-American. A late-round pick in the
1992 NFL Draft, Detmer played for five NFL teams, mostly in a back-up
role.

who coached BYU football for nearly 30 years.
The football stadium is named after him.
With 257 career
victories, he is one of the most successful college football
coaches of all time. He was the coach when BYU won a national championship in 1984 and coached Heisman Trophy
winner Ty Detmer in 1990.

Our backyard on the morning of January 1st
The snow is mostly gone now except for small patches here and there and some on the pool cover. It is a little cooler today with the expected high to be 50 degrees.
It is sunny with a blue sky, so Sam and I are getting ready to go for a walk.
There are a lot of new houses going up nearby. Across the road from us looking west, a family is expected to move in this weekend; and there is another basement being dug and another with some frame work started. This will no doubt bring in nice neighbors, but
we are not thrilled seeing the pastures giving way to houses.
Fortunately, we can enjoy our big backyard and the mountain view behind us.
