Meet Them Where They Are - Help Them Take the Next Right Step

MEET THEM WHERE THEY ARE. HELP THEM TAKE THE NEXT RIGHT STEP. - Skyler Hansen

One lesson I've learned through years of training, teaching, and living is that we cannot expect someone just beginning their journey to have the understanding of someone who has traveled it for decades.
I wouldn't expect a trainee on their first day to know everything an experienced trainer knows. Why should I expect that of someone learning about life, faith, or Jesus Christ?
The Savior was the Master Teacher. He met people in their circumstances, taught them according to their understanding, and invited them to grow.
We can do the same.
Show compassion. Exercise patience. Share what you've learned. Respect their agency. Encourage their next right step.
Sometimes we plant a seed. Sometimes we water one that someone else planted. And sometimes we're the ones who need teaching.
We don't have to be someone's final teacher. We can help prepare them for whatever comes next.
Growth takes time. Progress comes through consistent effort. And we are all still learning.
"And he that receiveth the word by the Spirit of truth receiveth it as it is preached by the Spirit of truth ... and both are edified and rejoice together." — Doctrine and Covenants 50:21–22
Jesus Christ is the Master Teacher. May we follow His example.
